Creator Gifting: How It Works (and Why It Works)

Gifting means giving a product to a creator in exchange for content. How it works, what it costs and how to succeed with your first gifting collabs.

For brands · Leust

Gifting means giving a product to a content creator in exchange for a post. It's the simplest and least risky way for a clothing brand to launch its first collaborations.

What is gifting?

Gifting (or "free product") is a collaboration in which the brand sends a piece from its collection to a creator, who styles it in a photo or video published on their social media. No cash is paid to the creator: the exchange is product for content.

Why gifting works so well

How to succeed with a gifting collab

Choose the right creator

Target creators whose world fits yours. An engaged streetwear micro-creator is worth more than a big generalist account. Alignment beats audience size.

Offer a desirable product

The creator needs to want to wear and show the piece. Offer a real piece from your collection, not leftover stock.

Frame the exchange

Specify the expected format (reel, post, story), the publication deadline and the mentions. A clear brief = compliant content.

Leave room for creative freedom

Set the framework, but let the creator style it their own way: that's what makes the content natural and high-performing.

Gifting or paid collab?

Gifting is perfect to get started and for growing creators. When you want to work with more established creators or get specific deliverables, you'll move to the paid collab (product + payment). The two models are complementary.
